The Art of Ceremony
There are so many ways to honor our lives with ceremony, and the profound power that comes with such deep intention and authenticity gives us more meaning and connection. Utilizing ceremony as a tool in facing hardship, embracing change, and honoring others is a practice that is invaluable in creating a greater sense of control of our destiny. As religion evolves or fades in the aftermath of scientific dialogue, things like ceremony and ritual have been cloaked as "taboo" or "woo woo", when they are not inherently connected to out-dated dogmas and can be applied across beliefs and heritage.

Opportunities for Ceremony:
- Known as "Family Talk" in Samoan culture, or Ho'oponopono in Hawaiian culture, the ritualized and intentional coming together of family to be heard, seen, honored, and forgiven, strengthens family bonds, and can help in healing family trauma and chronic illness caused by relational discord.
- When at a cross-roads, or during a change-of life, ceremony can help one understand where they are, assess their priorities, and be seen and held in their hopes, dreams, and apprehensions, so that they can use a higher perspective to help guide their next steps.
- After the diagnosis of an illness to be seen and held in their struggle, to discover their intention and role in the healing process, and decide what routes they want to take with given outcomes. This fosters a sense of control and participation in the course of events and can replace feelings of victimization or helplessness. Involving the family in such a ceremony deepens bonding and creates a greater sense of unity in supporting the afflicted loved one.
- After loss, to acknowledge one's grief, gratitude, and joy, release the weight of responsibility or guilt, and develop a sense of closure.
- At changing of life stages such as, Puberty, Adulthood, Parenthood, Menopause, etc. to acknowledge the evolution and strengthen and educate the individual for the challenges ahead.
- Whenever we have deeper questions to ask of life, our place, and our heritage.
Let us journey together.
